Hippocrates said it best way back in 400 BC

The Hippocratic oath states that any medical practitioner, should 'first do no harm' - but so many Western medical practitioners only treat the symptoms of their patients' condition, masking what's really causing the dis-ease. Often the treatments cause more harm to the patient in the long run, and don't solve the lack of balance that is the source of their pain.

A favourite quote of mine comes from Dr. Sidney Baker in his book, Detoxification and Healing.
He says:  “If you are sitting on a tack, it takes a lot of aspirin to kill the pain. It is better to remove the tack. If you are sitting on three tacks, it will not improve your pain much to remove just one. You have to get them all out.”

Holistic Wellness is about looking at the bigger picture, examining each of our 11 body systems closely to form a treatment plan that takes the unique individual into account, rather than just taking a pill to remove the pain or isolating a symptom to treat.

It's not a one-size-fits-all or band-aid approach, and sometimes can take more time than simply popping a few pills, but the effects of a holistic approach are longer lasting and truly bring the individual back into harmonious balance - both with themselves and with their environment.

The approach of Nourish & Encourage is to use our food as medicine, to look at how we can optimize our environment for health and to find inspiration to live a more energised life.
